(This is from Susun Weed's Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year) These are herbs that women can benefit by
taking She does offer a warning that herbs don't always have predictable effects and the same plant may increase
fertility in one person and decrease it in another. However, in her opinion (which I trust a great deal) and experience
the following herbs have shown themselves effective and safe when used with caution and respect: 1. Red Clover
Flowers (Trifolium pratense) - high vitamin content useful for uterus; high protein content aids entire body; profuse
and absorbable calcium and magnesium relax the nervous system and promote fertility; high mineral content helps
restore and balance hormonal function; also alkalinizes the body and may balance the acid/alkaline level of the vagina
and uterus in favour of conception - often combined with Peppermint in fertility brews (mint is safe and pleasant
taking and a sexual stimulant) - infuse one ounce of Red Clover blossoms and a teaspoon of Peppermint (or any other
mint) in a quart of water for four hours. - this infusion may be taken freely throughout the day and for several
months continuously 2. Nettle leaves (Urtica diocia) - uterine tonic and general nourisher with special ability
to strengthen kidneys and adrenals; high mineral and chlorophyll content makes it excellent food and tonic for hormonal
system - drink one or more cups of the infusion daily for several months 3. Red Raspberry leaves - uterine
tonic; high in calcium - most effective when combined with Red Clover - steep one half ounce of Red Clover blossoms
and one half ounce Raspberry leaves in quart of water for four hours; drink one or more cups daily and can be continued
for months - another method is to add 5-15 drop of either Dong Quai root tincture or False Unicorn root tincture
to each cup of Raspberry leaf infusion 4. Don Quai root (Angelica sinensis) - USE ONLY IN COMBINATION WITH
OTHER HERBS - normalizes menstrual periods - available as "Tang Kwei Gin" - best results when taken
during days between ovulation and menstruation and discontinued between menstrual flow and ovulation - possible
to make Dong Quai/Comfrey root tincture if "Gin" is not available 5. False Unicorn root (Chamaelirium
luteum)P - powerful and positive uterine tonic; strong beneficial and alkalinizing influence on ovaries, kidneys
and bladder - difficult to obtain except in commercial combination tinctures and capsules - dosage is 5-15 drops
per day; infusion is taken in sips up to half a cup daily Other helpful things: - ovulation is controlled
by light. Leave a light on in your bedroom for three nights midway through your menstrual cycle; all other nights
keep the room in total darkness. You will ovulate when the light is one. Have intercourse during the three "light"
nights. This method is called lunaception and combines well with the herbs that promote fertility. - make sure
that you are getting enough calcium and magnesium as these are two minerals thought to be the most important in affecting
a woman's ability to conceive and maintain a pregnancy
